Often hailed as the undisputed GOAT of volleyball, Karch Kiraly’s career is a story of unparalleled success across different disciplines of the sport. Regla Torres of Cuba is often cited as the greatest female middle blocker of all time. A three-time Olympic gold medalist, she was a central figure in the dominant Cuban women’s national team of the 1990s and early 2000s, known as “Las Morenas del Caribe” (The Caribbean Girls). At just 17 years old, she became the youngest-ever Olympic volleyball champion at the 1992 Barcelona Games.

Torres was a force at the net. Her incredible jumping ability, combined with her timing and power, made her a dominant blocker and an efficient attacker. She led Cuba to Olympic gold in 1992, 1996, and 2000. She also won two FIVB World Championships in 1994 and 1998, earning the MVP award in both tournaments.

Ivan Zaytsev, known as “The Tsar,” is one of the most powerful and charismatic players in modern volleyball. The son of a legendary Soviet Olympic champion volleyball player, Zaytsev has carved out his own remarkable career. An Italian international, he is known for his devastating jump serve and thunderous spikes from the opposite and outside hitter positions. 

Zaytsev has been a stalwart for the Italian national team for over a decade. He was instrumental in their silver medal-winning performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics and their bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. He also holds the record for the fastest serve in Olympic history, a blistering 127 km/h (79 mph) rocket he unleashed in 2012.

Her powerful spikes and leadership were instrumental in China’s victory at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, as well as two World Cups and a World Championship.

Lang Ping’s influence on the sport is perhaps even more significant as a coach. She is the only person in volleyball history to have won Olympic gold as both a player and a coach. After a successful playing career, she embarked on a coaching journey that took her to Italy, the United States, and back to China. She coached the U.S. women’s team to a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
